Central Intake Training Materials

Welcome to HEALTHe NL, Newfoundland and Labrador's Electronic Health Record (EHR). HEALTHe NL provides authorized health care professionals with secure access to patient information including medication profiles from all provincial community pharmacies, acute care clinical documents, laboratory results and diagnostic images.  The Central Intake (CI) solution manages the referrals for ophthalmology services through HEALTHe NL from initial referral submission to delivery of service. The goals of the centralized intake of referrals include:  

• Primary Care Providers can refer their patient using Central Intake to have the referral placed in a pooled list for a consultation appointment with the next available surgeon with the aim of decreasing patient wait times 
• Referring providers continue to have the option to refer the patient to a specific surgeon if they feel it is in the best interest of the patient  The patient can also choose to be referred to a specific surgeon after being informed that this may result in a longer wait time 
• Waitlists can be balanced among providers which equalizes access and levels workloads
