The Laboratory Information System (LABS) is a vital component and the next step in continuing the development of the provincial EHR. LABS allows clinicians to view laboratory results regardless of where providers or patients are located.

• Benefits

  The integration of the LABS component into the provincial EHR helps:

  • Reduce wait times with faster access to patient information.
  • Enhance patient care by sharing information with broader primary health care teams.
  • Reduce the need for duplicate diagnostic testing.
  • Reduce medical errors.

• Progress/Status

  Clinicians across the province now have access to Eastern Health (EH) laboratory data via the HEALTHe NL Viewer. Access to laboratory data from the other RHAs will be provided as part of future integration plans.
